How does the Lord speak to you? Sometimes He speaks to me through other people. Here’s a testimony about a prophetic word I received that I was to pray for someone.
It’s December 2023 and I have plans to meet friends at Walmart one night to do some Christmas shopping. Beforehand, I’m on the phone with a different friend of mine who lives out of state and right before I hang up he says:
You need to pray for someone tonight.
And I ask him well what does that mean? Do you have any more information? Who is this person? And he says that’s all the information that he has, just that the Lord told him to convey that information.
Perplexed, apprehensive and excited I hang up and head out to Walmart.
I meet up with my friends and we do our shopping and I’m waiting for the Lord to speak to me, tap me on the shoulder, or highlight someone for me to pray for. But it never comes.
We checked out, we’re on our way out of the store and just as we pass the receipt checker my friend turns to me and says:
You're supposed to pray for her.
What!? It doesn’t work like this I think to myself, the Lord is supposed to speak to me directly, right?
Not always.
Sometimes the Lord speaks through other people. It’s a good way to get our attention.
But we have to listen.
So I take it on faith. I tell my friends I’ll catch up with them later and I wait for a good moment to approach her and I pray for her, and then left.
Was the prayer answered? I don’t know. I like to think it was.
Afterwards, I follow up with my friend from the phone call and I tell him the story. And he says to me:
When I told you to pray for someone earlier, I sensed they needed hope.
I want to encourage you to do two things:
- Listen (with discernment) to those Christians around you
- Allow yourself to be uncomfortable
The Lord is likely speaking to you through other believers. Please be sure to apply some discernment to what they are saying, and if you believe it’s from the Lord, step out in faith. Particularly if they are people do not know each other but are saying the same thing. And stepping out in faith often means being uncomfortable and doing things that stretch you and grow you.
