What rules and laws make up the world you want to live in? The world is filled with different philosophies of living, all with some element of truth and derived through worldly wisdom. And they have varying levels of value to your life. But which is the best?
I first propose that there can be a best possible philosophy of life. Second, I propose that the complexity to understand the operation of the world such that a best philosophy of life can be found is beyond the limitations of the finite human mind. The human brain does not have enough compute power and memory capacity to model and understand the world in a way that an optimal solution could be found. Thirdly, it follows the ability to create or derive an optimal philosophy for life is therefore other-worldly or divine.
I finally propose that the best of all possible worlds is the one that Jesus proposed: love your neighbor as yourself.
You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:43-45
The Bible has a word for rules that describe the best way to live your life: commandments.
Jesus says that all other commandments flow from the first and second commandments: to love God and love others.
Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself." All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Matthew 22:37-40
What is the world you want to live in? And what are the commandment(s) you would establish to provide such a world for you and others to live in? I challenge you to create or find a philosophy that provides for a better world than the one Jesus describes. And if you cannot, I propose that is evidence of Jesus’ divinity.
